Pete Radio 015 (fixed)

The first of probably too many theme shows. All the songs in this session have parentheses in the title which makes for a somewhat random but oddly mainstream sounding selection. With a couple of exceptions this is about as Radio 2 as I get, though that's no bad thing once in a while. (file was bad - fixed now. Please download again.)

When I'm preparing the tracklistings for these shows and looking for links it occurs to me that I really don't know shit about the music I'm playing. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as I like to push out stuff I'm recently enthusiastic about, but it does mean you should take any "facts" I mumble with a pinch of salt. Via links this week - Donewating podcast and Andy's Mix Tapes.

Pete Radio 012

This one flowed out remarkably smoothly, but then it really should be by now. Nothing too painful this time. In fact we're verging on easly listening territory here. For me, anyway. Surprising number of dedications again. If you have a request, do let me know. Oh, and listening through I didn't mean to imply that being gay was irrational.

Morning Chorus in Bourneville

Something slightly different for all of you who live somewhere without birdsong. Stick this on and pretend you do. You can also pretend you live next to a large but murmuring chocolate factory, since that's the hum in the background. Recorded at 4.30am out of my bedroom window and lasting for 42 minutes.

June 03, 2005
Pete Radio 011

It's getting harder to write these blurbs. I play some music. After every three tracks I talk for a little bit. The music is what some might call "an eclectic mix". With any luck you'll hear something you've never heard before that you also like the sound of. That's the idea anyway.

Number ten! How did that happen? Quite pleased with this one. Much more talking and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also a little focus on some local musicians filtered into the usual mess of good solid music and weird shit. And the buzzy mic has gone! Truly this is new dawn...

Listening through this session with a couple of hours hindsight it does appear to be one of the more accidentally esoteric selections I've put together but I hope that doesn't put you off. And if anyone can help with that Jim White track I'll mention them "on air" next time and you can tell all your mates. Oh, and apologies for the massive nasal exhale towards the end. Finally, we're now podcasting at the higher rate of 96kbps, which means it's all a little clearer. Think less AM on a mountain, more FM in an old car.

It would appear that having a cold, being a bit tired and somewhat irritable makes for rather good radio. I'll try and get fucked up every time I podcast from now on. Lots more talking this time (though the volume is way lower than usual for some reason - sorry) and the usual random selection of tunes that really shouldn't go together but kinda do. Oh, I mention a few things you might want to check out online: James Kochalka's diary comic and his printed work, Andy R's band Linus with mp3s, and Acts of Volition Radio - the only other podcast vaguely like mine I've come across. If you know of any other decent music and talk based podcasts, please leave a link in the comments.

What can I say, I missed a week. Bad me. It's actually Jez's fault. He made me buy the gin. But I'm back with another hour of tunes and no, the new mic hasn't arrived. Probably won't be for a while by which time you'll have grown to love the static. Trust me.

Rather rushed together and released early as I'm away this weekend, but not too bad for all that. Initially it was tracks I'd randomly put to one side during the week but when I came to look at the list it was frighteningly unlistenable so I dug out some more friendly pieces to soften the blow a bit. Oh, and there's a new mic on the way so the fuzzy-buzzy stuff will hopefully go away soon.

Twenty tunes for you in this hour. As for my psychological mood I'm starting to get a little frustrated with the limitations of the kit I'm using. That mic really is too buzzy for a start. I guess this is progress. Still not fully comfortable with my delivery but if I will record these things at 1 in the morning it's not going to be buzzy. Whatever, I'm happy with it. Enjoy!

[Update: The upload on Sunday morning was corrupted - should be fine now.]

Pete Radio 002

Nine tunes by ColdCUT, Helen Reddy, Bight Eyes, Klaus Wusthoff, Half Man Half Biscuit, Smog, Strawberry Switchblade, Spiritualized and, of course, The Pixies, top and tailed with the minimum of talking, partly because of micriphone issues and partly because my voice sounds blooming awful.

Pete Radio 001

My first, faltering attempt at podcasting featuring Bantam Rooster, The Pixies, The Eels, Asobi Seksu, M83, Shellac, Jon Brion and Death in Vegas in a half hour show.
