About this site
In June 2000 I started blogging at peteashton.com and 10 years later in June 2010 I decided to stop. Blogging here, that is. I started a clean slate over on I Am Pete Ashton and maintain all manner of other web presences which are all listed here along with my contact details.
You probably came here via a Google search or from following a link on some old blog post somewhere. I hope what you find is useful in some way, though do check the publication date - it might be rather old now.
Thanks for your eyeballs.

Light painting in lieu of fireworks.
We were planning to go see some fireworks tonight and took along the tripods to do some long exposures, something I hadn’t done since 2006. But we got there late and couldn’t park so came back home a little dejected … Continue reading

For Moseley, this Christmas
It’s always nice when someone asks if they can use one of my photos. Sometimes it’s commercial use so I ask for a reasonable fee (usually £50) but often it’s non-commercial or pushes the right button. I might not be … Continue reading

Wasting time
Stupid surveys in news outlets desperate to fill space are nothing new but something about this piece of crap got my goat this morning. I wasn’t bothered about the Twitter bashing – that sort of nonsense hardly deserves my contempt … Continue reading

Just found the above photo of me on Nikki Pugh’s Uncertain Eastside walk. It was taken by Nicky Getgood while I was shooting this video.

Go see Efterklang
I first saw Danish group Eflerklang when they were touring their album Parades in autumn 2007. They were playing at the Hare and Hounds and had decorated the venue with peacock feathers. After a support set by Peter Broderick that … Continue reading

169 Runners
As I was taking the photos of the marathon runners I was thinking of doing a poster. Turned out to be quicker than I thought so here it is: Obviously much better as a large image or, if you fancy, … Continue reading

The faces of pain
The Birmingham Half Marathon took place today where thousands of people who’ve trained hard for months got up early and ran through the rainy streets of Brum for 13 miles. Since the route went near our house we got up … Continue reading

Holiday photos!
Within hours of moving out of Kings Heath and into Fiona’s house we were on an early morning plane to Greece for a week on the island of Paxos. It was lovely. Just on the cusp of off season so … Continue reading
8bit Lounge The Second
At the last minute I remembered 8bit Lounge was on Tuesday night. I’d been throwing tracks into a playlist over the month so I quickly dumped them on a thumb drive and biked over to the Hare and Hounds in … Continue reading
The truth, but not the whole truth
Because I’m that sort of person I tend to get my breaking news from Radio 4. I trust it not to be too sensationalist and give me a more rounded view of what’s going on than, say, every other broadcast … Continue reading

And so the Othello adventure begins
Tonight was my first proper rehearsal with Birmingham Opera for the chorus of Othello. I’m a Tenor 2, aparently, and although this is subject to change it’s probably about right as I can go low, but not too low, and … Continue reading
Opera, Trucks and Art
Had a lovely day today. The sun was shining, Fi was back in Brum and there were things that needed to be done. First off was a bit of Opera. Not watching but singing. Birmingham Opera is our local company … Continue reading

Birmingham People at Artsfest
A few friends of mine are involved with Birmingham Photospace, a campaign to get a permanent place in the city dedicated to photography because, to be honest, it’s kinda embarrassing that there isn’t one. It’s early days but they’re starting … Continue reading

[Update 2: Well, one of the only benefits to not doing much blogging this summer is I didn't have much to re-post. All done now. The comments on posts from May are missing though and I'll be putting them back … Continue reading

Moseley Folk Festival – Sunday
Teh Tull! The change is audiences was interesting. Yesterday it was pretty much “Moseley on holiday” albeit the 30+ middle class Guardian reading muesli sandal bit of Moseley. Today there was a rather significant headliner and in response there was … Continue reading
Moseley Folk Festival 2009 – Saturday
Listening to Beth Orton at 10pm… The second day of the Moseley Folk Festival was a lot more social for me. Fi got a Saturday ticket and I had one of those occasions where I couldn’t turn around without seeing … Continue reading
Moseley Folk Festival 2009 – Friday
Enjoyed the first day of the 4th Moseley Folk Festival. This is the music event where I don’t really know any of the acts or, to be honest, have a great deal of passion for the sort of music on … Continue reading
