The end of the shop, for now

I just posted the end-game plans for the Created in Brum shop. In short we’ll be closing on the 23rd and packing up and out by the 29th. We’ll then take a few months to recuperate and reflect on what happened before maybe coming back in the Autumn.

There are many reasons for doing this. Some are outside of out control, some are completely within our control, but one of them can be best illustrated by this photograph taken of me on Saturday evening after our busiest day on record.

You’ll notice the distant stare, the nervous rubbing of the arms, the given-up-on-being-defensive, wounded posture.

Actually, let’s zoom in and enhance that face:

I need a break.

No regrets, though. This has been one of those “chapter of the biography” moments and while I’m prefacing every mention of re-opening with “maybe” I’m pretty damn sure I’m going to make it happen.

Once I’ve had a break.

Thanks for everything and thanks to everyone who has been involved. I can see how much work it has been and at times must seem like madness. It’s been a great opportunity for people, whatever happens.

Well done to all… a breath of fresh air and an inkling that Birmingham can bring its peripheral culture into the heart of the city without scaring the horses. I mean, shoppers.

    Long may it run.
