This American Life is probably the best example of speech radio in the world. I’ve been a fan for quite a while now so when one of the producers got in touch to ask if they could use one of my photos to illustrate a show on their website I immediately waved my fee and agreed. It was the least I could do. Today it went live:
Amusingly the show is called Middle Of The Night and is about people who, through choice or not, are awake when everyone else is asleep. In other words it’s about people like me.
Not being in America I listen to TAL via the podcast and that doesn’t always have the most recent shows so I’m not sure when I’ll get to hear this one but I’m sure it’ll be fantastic. They always are.
The photo used is this one:
It was taken at 4.35am (obviously) at New Street Station as part of Karen Strunks’ 4am Project on April 4th this year (the next one is December 6th). Here’s my blog post from then with all the photos.
Whodathunk the photo I snapped back then would be used by my favourite podcast?

That IS cool! It really jumped out at me that they’d used a UK rail clock but I didn’t look closely to see who it was by. I would be very chuffed indeed, TAL is the best! Well done.
Congratulations! An honor indeed.
Just a thought – there are Public Radio iPhone apps available, some of which have access to schedules as well as podcasts. Perfect for those of us (with an iPhone) who are usually six or so time zones out of sync. Also, the Apple TV upgrade last month now features the same internet radio stations as iTunes does via your computer. All in all, great access for the best in radio broadcasting.
Congrats mate! I too listen to this American life in podcast form each week.
If you remember I’m the british (former teen) guy who you featured way back in 04-05 as the smoking fetish guy…just checking in :)

Congratulations on the honor! I too am a fan of TAL and listen via podcast (for convenience). I thank you also for introducing me to TTV polyptych imagery!
