Tonight we went to a comedy gig. It was run by Al Hutchins, head of The Courtesy Group and wrangler of the Curates Egg gigs. The headliner was Simon Munnery, who was excellent, and I also got a chance to finally see the Graham Parsnip Liquidiser Torture Think-Tank who I discovered years ago but never caught live, and they too were very good indeed. But the highlight was Ted Chippington who I had only discovered through Stewart Lee a while back but who Fi was a huge fan of back in the day. Ted was great if impossible to describe so here’s the film by Lee which explains him rather well.
Ted was selling CDs for a tenner. I figured that wasn’t too bad so asked for one. It turned out to be Walking Down The Road – a 4CD box set of his old recordings. For a fucking tenner! I got it signed and mentioned Fi was too shy to come over and say hello, so we went over and kissed her on the cheek. She pretty much floated out of the pub.

Thanks Ted! And thanks Al for putting it all on!

Hi Pete. I got ‘heckled’ by Simon Munnery once a few years ago. I went to the toilet during his act and when I got back it turned out he had been doing Hitler salutes at me behind my back.
Great show! You should get in touch with Simon Harper @ Who’s Laughing Now if you wanted to do some reviews for their site.
Can’t forget that last time we saw Munnery and I chipped a lift to New St with Munnery and a guy dressed as Nosferatu and got abused by the driver-cum-promoter. Very surreal… Hope turnout better than that show!
Saw Ted Chippington at Hare and Hounds 2 years ago. He was really pissed and absolutely dreadful. Never again.
Joe, I think you are fundamentally missing the essence of Ted Chippington’s performance. (As were a fair few people last night, much to my amusement.)
Susi, yes, I remember that night well. Was rather trepiditous (?) going in last night and delighted to see it sold out and rammed.
