Wi-fi in Birmingham

Wi-fi in Birmingham – Another attempt to map the free (and paid for, but that's not so interesting) wifi hotspots in Birmingham. I've added my regular haunts in Kings Heath / Moseley and Digbeth. Part of the wider UK Wifi Map project and was set up by Ed Russell.

  1. Ed Russell says:

Thanks for the support Pete :-) Ed.

  2. Michael says:

The map is fantastic, and I even managed to add a node! One obvious omission from the current map though is the city centre (Bull Ring etc). Is this because it’s difficult to add (I for one have no idea of its ‘boundaries’)?

  3. Ed Russell says:

I’m not sure quite how to add an area – perhaps we add one pin in the centre of a cloud?

    Anyone got any thoughts?

  4. Pete Ashton says:

I added an area last night covering the city centre but it didn’t really add anything and just confused the map, so I got rid of it.

I reckon the centre is pretty well defined by the ring roads. Can’t think of any reason we need to add geographic data. Happy to be wrong though.

  5. Ed Russell says:

Ahh – I read the message differently. I thought he was talking about cloud areas covered by wifi rather than a small location…

  6. Pete Ashton says:

Ah, maybe he was. That’d make more sense. Michael?

  7. I think I was talking about cloud areas. I was referring particularly to BCC’s Information Zone (or whatever it’s called) that’s publicised around the Bullring and city centre, as this seems a key area of access in Birmingham and should be marked on the map somehow. But how, I’ve no idea!
