This weekend I’m taking part in Film Dash, a 48 hour film competition where the teams have to create a film from scratch starting at 7pm on Friday and delivering the finished piece by 7pm on Sunday. I’m part of Team TTV which consists of Rill Marchant, Danny Smith and myself.
My principle involvement in this is the construction and operation of our main camera and, once the film has been edited by Rill, composition of the dialogue for our principle actor, the Thingamagoop. The plot, which I will not spoil, is being devised by Danny and Rill and filming starts in Digbeth tomorrow morning.
For now here’s the camera I built this evening during the script meeting:
And here’s the test footage I shot with it:

I’m really looking forward to this. It’s getting me out of my usual comfort zone (I’ve never made a film before) and by working with Danny and Rill I can switch off my planning brain for a couple of days and just do what I’m told. It also means the end product might actually have some value as a film and not just be me randomly filming stuff. Yay for collaboration!
