Theatre Critic

My review of the Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Tempest at the Waterside Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon on Saturday 5th August 2006 staring Patrick Stewart as Prospero.

Meh.

Okay, Julian Bleach as Ariel was good, but I later discovered he was one of the key players behind the wonderful Shockheaded Peter so that was no surprise.

To be honest, I fell asleep in the middle of the first half.

Everyone else seemed to like it though.

I was going to ask you if you wanted to go and see this. Perhaps I should instead ask you if you want to go again. I completely blame my wife for your falling asleep, as getting you to smash the bathroom about of Friday clearly wore you out. Poor lamb.

Yes I was very tired that day but I thought about it quite a bit and I probably wouldn’t have liked it if I was all alert and bouncy. I have issues with Shakespeare at the best of times and when it’s done all “Actory”…

    I dunno, I think it’s just me.

Now, Beckett on the other hand. A decent Waiting for Godot would hold be spellbound no matter how knackered I was.
