Unfortunately I am (‘ow you Eenglish say) a hack, with no slim-to-nil chances of writing anything worthwhile to begin with. Limits therefore serve to get on my nerves and get on my nerves only.

Limits work both ways – they let you keep things manageable but they also give you something to kick against. Utopias generally don’t produce good art…

Oh, I meant bias in the sense of a good thing, concentrating on one thing and doing it well. Most of the live music sites I’ve seen try and cover everything and fail miserably at it so in this regard I like bias.

There’s more than a bit of a bias – it’s designed as and intended to be a site for rock/metal/punk/hardcore/the noisier end of indie.

That isn’t the limit of my own tastes, but that’s what the site is about.

Been having a click through the review and gig listings and there’s a lot of good stuff on there – bit of a metal/rock bias but that’s not a problem.

I think those sorts of forums do have a use – like Jeremy implied they keep all the mess and aggro in one place. It’d be nice if they (communion that is) had a blog or something to filter out the useful stuff though.

The reviews on there can be worth reading, though. I suppose I would say that.

Well done Pete – you’ve defended yourself admirably and with dignity, without stooping to their moronic level.

I’ve long thought that one day I’d get a response like this to a gig review, but so far it hasn’t happened. If it ever does, then I only hope I can deal with it as well as you have.

If I were in a band (and the truth is that I’d love to be if I had any musical talent whatsoever) then I’m sure I’d be nettled by a particularly bad review. But, as you say, it’s one person’s opinion and you can’t be so precious and fragile as to take everything that’s written or said about you to heart. In any case, your criticisms of SL didn’t seem unduly harsh and were accompanied by justificatory comments (having not seen them myself, that is).

It’s the obsession they seem to have with your use of a bicycle that really turns me against them. Wrong-headed defence of a band you love is bound to lurch beyond the realms of logic, I did it myself in my younger days I’m sure, but transport-based bigotry is surely unforgivable.
