An honest opinion is a valued thing – it should be nutured & cherished – or pointedly ignored
I’ve had both & I always ended up feeling more disturbed by a good review of a review than a bad review – but in the end – erasing them from your memory is the best approach – swaying to any opinion is a bad thing.
Music is about passion – so ‘debate’ about it can be… um… passionate (I guess)
all on diplay here – yup.

i chuckle inwardly though – as the ‘defence’ works counter & just pushes the google ranking up – as google note the traffic & linkage

but let me type a quote from ‘Atomic City Tales #2′ (got it in a sale recently) by Jay Stephens (is a good comic – but there’s some ‘essence’ missing in it on the whole)

me – i never went to uni – dropped out of college – but always maintained a curiosity

i donated to pete’s gig going thing – so i might have inadvertedly helped him to see thins gig & be evidently bored by the blandness – the lack of ‘challenge’ laid down by said band.

Oh dear! Whoever keeps retorting with childish txt like replies is not doing SL any favours. Bow down gracefully and accept criticism, to a point. Do however keep looking at this sight. I personally find it hilarious! Mind you, as I have since left the band, I wonder if this may have, in fact, got SL an intrieged following? We shall see come the new year. ALLES KLA!

I’m not university educated but I’m hapy enough to say that the ‘side’ who come across as cretinous here are the members/supporters of Sweet Lilly.

Here’s the thing – Pete didn’t like them, fair enough, but after reading his review I still wouldn’t have been necessarily averse to seeing them. After reading their idiotic attempts to defend themselves here I probably would be.

WEST SIDE!Pete from SL here again. I havnt looked at this blog for a day or two now, but it looks like I was right in my prediction of it evolving into a forum for musically orrientated rowdy Brummies! Everyone who has commented has had a valid point, and as stipulated in a previous comment, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It would be boring if we all thought the same. My only gripe with Pete Ashton was that he seemed to enjoy criticising us and expressed himself in a manner suggesting he was in fact writing the music review in NME or THE TIMES.
Oh well, im off to Morrisons now to by myself another Home Wine Kit, because unfortunatley for me I never went to university, I only went to college, so my average wage job does’nt allow me to afford proper booze. Aleast im not like those wankers who live on the street and drink meths. But again i cant afford meths. Anyone out there got any lighter fuel i can sup on tonight? INNIT

I see you’ve gained a name, well done. Not quite sure how many “students” wear “tweed jackets” but you can make up what you like, it doesn’t bother me. I have no desire to turn this into a flame war. You like Sweet Lilly whereas I like Misty’s Big Adventure You don’t like this website (and yet seem to spend an awfully large amount of time on it) whereas I do. I know how to construct a sentence, and you, well to be polite, don’t have the greatest grasp of spelling, punctuation or grammar.
Once again I don’t want to turn this into a flame war, lets agree to differ and stop clogging up Pete’s blog with this nonsense.

To the anonymous poster who left their comments at 3.03pm, Misty’s Big Adventure in the last eighteen months have supported Jeffrey Lewis, The Zutons and The Magic Numbers and have received the patronage of Rob Da Bank, Huw Stevens, John Kennedy, Phill Jupitus, Tom Robinson, Steve Lamacq and Claire Sturgess (‘The Story Of Love’ was her single of the week) along, of course, with the late John Peel. They also have an ever increasing fanbase and I’ve spoken to numerous people at gigs who went to see other bands and ended up loving Misty’s, fans of Absent Kid, The Pipettes, New Rhodes and Yeti last week for example. Their most recent album ‘The Black Hole’ received glowing reviews (do a google search for Misty’s Big Adventure).They’re playing an eagerly anticipated Xfm Xposure night on Thursday, have a Radio 1 OneMusic session this week and are tipped to gain at least one, if not several entries in this year’s Festive Fifty. Last month’s The Word magazine had a track of their’s on the Now Hear This CD and said some very nice things about them. So it appears that they are going to do fairly well for themselves. They are also a very nice bunch of people and have a sound that is completely unique.
I’m not quite sure what you mean by: “If thats how the music industry is shaping up” but if you mean that Misty’s Big Adventure appear to have a very bright future, then yes that is true. I guess what your saying is that their music is not for you, which is fine, I’m not affiliated with the band in any way, but I’m sure they can accept criticism without getting unduly upset. However if you said what it is you dislike about them your comments may carry more weight. I assume that ultimately you like a relatively narrow spectrum of music, which is your prerogative.
Was your student comment aimed at me? If so I’m afraid it is unfounded, I graduated two and a half years ago.
