Audio Recorder Great little Mac app that does exactly what it says – record audio as mp3s with no fuss or nonsense. Caused a small evolution in my podcast preparation system and magically got rid of the static buzz. (Ta)

I’m currently using Sound Studio that came with my mac. Other than recording straight to Mp3 (I use mAC3dec to convert) does this Audio Recorder have other advantages?

I haven’t tried Sound Studio – I’ll have to give it a whirl.

The advantage to Audio Recorder is it doesn’t do anything other than record the audio. Click – record – click – save. No bells or whistles. I then import the mp3 into iMovie in the same way I import the music and edit it there. Because it’s recording at the lower bitrate than iMovie and doesn’t have any fancy graphical rendering of the audio stream it doesn’t use up loads of processing power or get choked up writing to the disk, so it doesn’t cut out half way through – this was happening a fair bit with iMovie.

yeah iMovie is a bad way to import sound. If I actually want to import sound to iMovie I record it in sound studio and then import into iMovie.
I find at least a few of the bells and whistles useful, especially being able to amplify sections of your recording. This is mostly cos what I’m doing it recording vinyl to the computer but in general its nice to be able to raise the volume on bits that are too quiet. Also if you have any anoying background noise and dont want to re-record you can dampen those sections, but this may not be much use for you if you’re just recording your voice and all the music comes from the computer itself.
