How to find websites of people who literally don’t know where they’re at

I was looking at the GeoURL Maps which graphically show the sites that have registered their “meatspace” co-ordinates with them and I noticed quite a few scattered around the oceans. I clicked in their general area and had a look. The first one is supposed to be about 300 miles SW of Ireland but is actually the home page of a Prague-based programmer. Clicking on and it all gets very random. The only thing connecting these sites together is that they all screwed up their co-ordinates when registering on GeoURL. And for some reason I find that endlessly fascinating!

  1. Dad says:

So, I checked this GeoURL thing out, particularly as I like to know where I am so that I can work out where I’m going ;-)

I entered my zip code and saw that this puts me on the other side of the freeway (rather like living on the other side of the railroad tracks). So I tinkered a bit and finally got the coordinates for the actual block where I live. So now those ICBMs know how to eliminate me (and, by default, the rest of Houston).
