Late last year I suggested to my mum that, for her Xmas present, I’d set her up with a web site. She’s been teaching Yoga for a number of years now and now she’s from school teaching she wants to push it more full time. Using the premise that anyone under the age of 30 (and a fair few above) use Google and the like to find things like Yoga classes (at least both me and my sister did) a web site seemed not only cool but kinda essential.
Of course, circumstances in my life this summer kinda put hold on me getting all the bells and whistles together but in the week before going to the farm I bashed up a quick site replicating her leaflets and put it in a non-linked-to directory of this domain. I showed her briefly how to edit and upload it and we left it at that.
A couple of months later she was searching Google for yoga classes in Winchester and to her horror this site came up. I still don’t know how the Google spiders found it but they did and because this site is bizarrely highly ranked on Google it came up in the top five.
Only a lot of the information was bobbins.
Mum seized the moment and got it all sorted out. Rather than fork out for a proper domain we used the free space that comes with the ISP and, after a bit of tweaking, I “launched” it this weekend. In other words I linked to it from my site to encourage Google to rank it nice and high. Of course, this post will no doubt appear above it so if you’re reading this but looking for Yoga classes in Winchester I can heartily recommend my mum!
