Those Tate fireworks…

A week or so back there was a wee 60 second firework display outside Tate Modern on the Thames. I went there with my camera…

Hundreds of people were crowded on the North side of the Thames opposite Tate Modern to witness the much hyped fireworks display. And what a treat we had in store!

Woo! A big bang under the Millenium Bridge! Very impressive!

Umm, Woo!-ish. A slow banging up the chimney, as it were, as the explosions eak their way to the top.

Then there was nothing. The crowds stood there, waiting for a finale or some kind of climax. Surely there must be a decent ending. But no. It was not to be and people started to make their way home.

But wait!

What’s this?

What’s that glowing on the right of the chimney? That blob there? Could it be Tate Modern is on fire?

By the gods, it is!

People stop and watch in anticipation as the flames grow to two stories high, as not shown in this picture:

And then a guy leant out the window with a fire extinguisher and put it out. All across the riverbank the crowd went "Awwwwwwww!" The most exciting part of the evening and it had ended.

    Ah-ha-ha-ha!

The video they’re showing outside the loos in the Tate of what happened cuts out before then. Damn spoil sports.

I’ll have to go check that video out and see how it relates to the real thing. Art – it’s all just smoke and mirrors!
