Craig-the-rep emailed with a handly link to O’Reilly’s Top Ten Digital Photography Tips. It gets a bit silly towards the end, but there’s some good stuff there.

About this site
In June 2000 I started blogging at peteashton.com and 10 years later in June 2010 I decided to stop. Blogging here, that is. I started a clean slate over on I Am Pete Ashton and maintain all manner of other web presences which are all listed here along with my contact details.
You probably came here via a Google search or from following a link on some old blog post somewhere. I hope what you find is useful in some way, though do check the publication date - it might be rather old now.
Thanks for your eyeballs.
Pete Ashton
What do you know? I’m not the only person in the world who uses my sunglasses as an ad-hoc filter.
Though mine’s usually covering the lens of a £3.99 disposable, admittedly.
Does anyone know if those cheap ‘espion’ (may have spelt that wrong) cameras come with macro/close-up mode? I’d like to get hold of a cheap digital camera with this function.
Hope you’re feeling better Pete.
No, they don’t – the minimum distance is about a metre. However, you can get interesting effects if you hold it close to something.
At the end of the day, a l’espion (or anything like it) is not for taking proper photos. Nothing ever comes out the way you expect it to. It’s for taking random shots and then being pleasently surprised at how they emerge. It hasn’t even got a view finder (ignore that thing that pops up)!
As for feeling better, the cold has moved through the feverish and snotty modules to the blocked up module of it’s progress through my sinuses. Which means it’s nearly over. By tomorrow I hope to be able to think straight enough to learn techy things.
