Rocky Marciano at Bar Italia

Just been to see Bowling For Colombine with Matt G which I want to write about and will do tomorrow (it’s late and I should be asleep) but we went for a coffee afterwards on Old Compton Street at Bar Italia which is a great place to go should you find yourself in Soho past midnight. (As an aside, I’m quite intrigued by the whole coffee shop culture – it has the chattiness of a pub without the getting pissed bit – shame about the caffeine but at least it’s not fucking with my drugs.) While there I took a photo I’m rather pleased with…

The full shot. I set this to no flash and the white balance for fluorescent lighting. Very happy with the colour that came out.

Detail on the Rocky poster. Both Matt and myself had looked at this poster while at the bar thinking it was a list of coffees we didn’t recognise. It was only later we realised it was a list of fights Rocky Marciano had won.

Another detail from the picture. I like the way stuff is piled up in a slightly messy but well organised manner. Reflects the feel of the place as a whole.

We saw BfC last night. Fantastic film, very funny and yet a powerful message still comes through. It is effective in showing the absurdity of the gun culture in the U.S, and seeing Charlton Heston expose himself to be a racist was very amusing. If you havn’t seen this film already make sure you do.
