Bankside at 8.00am on a rainy Sunday.

I went out looking for inspiration along the south bank of the Thames between Blackfriars Bridge and The Golden Hind. I didn’t find much. I wonder if I’m getting disillusioned with this patch of London or if it didn’t have much to offer to begin with other than a way to get from one part of London to another with no traffic. I thought that a rainy Sunday morning with nobody around would help it to reveal something interesting but it didn’t. At least not to me. I kept thinking that the side roads I walk down every day to work were more interesting.

Anway, here are thirteen of the photos I took.

Blackfriars bridge(s). To the left of the picture is the actual Blackfriars Bridge and to the right, the railway bridge leading to Blackfriars Station. In the middle are these struts which would support a bridge were there one there to support.

View across the rive towards the City. Tower 42 and the new Gherkin are both visible.

Under the Millennium Bridge.

This house is just next to the Globe theatre. A friend of mine, I forget which, really wants to live there.

Down on the riverside itself there are these outlet pipes, presumably for the street drains.

Because I was standing right under it, it took me a while to notice the huge letters proclaiming Bankside to those on the north of the river.

A very big E.

From the riverside looking east.

Bankside pier has these struts around it, presumably to protect it from boats crashing into it. This is looking straight down on them.

An intriguing lump of tarmac resting by a building site on Clink St.

Another view East

By Tate Modern, all the trees have these little plastic triangles attached to them. Can’t for the life of me figure out what they’re for.

The view North from the middle of Blackfriars Road.

Blimey! That is a great E! :) I’ve got some friends with chemical based hobbies that would freak if they walked past that :D

Nice house btw, add me to the list of people who’d happily live there – [sigh] where’s that lottery win? Billy Connelly OWES me…. ;)

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PIER ITSELF?

WHAT PIER? THERE IS NO PEIR! IT’S ALL BRIDGES!
